USA- Designed by Award-winning, New York-based design studio 3+Co., The Big Book of Illustration Ideas (Harper Design International; November, 2004) offers stylized pop cultural vignettes and features both acclaimed and emerging illustrators who demonstrate unbridled creativity and technicolor imagery. States 3+Co's creative team Amy Harte, Jen Cogliantry and Merideth Londagin, three sisters who admittedly fought over the last piece of cake but now recognize that good things do indeed come in 3's: "We built this colossal book, designing and managing every aspect. It's a gift for you and a chance to introduce ourselves". Illustrators featured include: Aaron Leighton, Adrian D'Alimonte, Alan Dingman, Alanna Cavanagh, Juliette Borda, Andrew Bylo, Anja Kroencke, Bonnie Dain, Campbell Laird, Olaf Jajek, Claudia Pearson, Dane LaChiusa, David Cooper, David Navascues, Fred Peault, Gordon Studer, Greg Morgan, Greg White, Heather Chontos, Izak Zenou, James Yang, Jason Tharp, Jenny Kostecki, Jenny Laden, Jo Jo Ensslin, John Coulter, Jonathan Weiner, Karen L. Greenberg, Katy Lemay, Kris Hargis, Laurie LaFrance, Leigh Wells, lilla Rogers, Linda Ketelhut, LINO, LULU, Marcos Chin, Margarete Gockel, Maria Carliuccio, Marta Windeisen, Matt Dicke and more. about 3+Co.
Who we are: 3 sisters. Admittedly there was a time that we couldn’t get far enough away from each other. Yes, we fought over the last piece of cake and who got to ride in the front seat, but we went our separate ways, settling in New York, Japan, and England. We worked for big publishers. We worked for small publishers. We grew up. And, realizing that our potential as a whole would always be much greater than the sum of our parts, we reunited and launched a design studio in New York City. 7 years, 4 moves and 3 weddings later, we still argue, not about cake or who gets to ride shotgun, but rather over interpreting design briefs and the subtleties of choosing the right font. And a nice thing about 3? You can always break a tie. What we do: Above all, we listen. We ask a lot of questions. Then we ask some more. We offer core design services of art direction, project management, typography, product architecture, layout and printer interface, all with immaculate attention to detail, schedules and budgets. We acknowledge that the goal of good design is to define and propel ideas and product. How we do it: Creativity + know how + know who. What was that? Creativity + know how = the talent of 3 creative directors, each with more than 10 years experience parlaying good design into business growth for their clients. The “know who” is the company we keep— seasoned business management developers, brand strategists, photographers, illustrators, stylists, printers, copywriters and editors. Thus: (creativity + know how) + know who = 3+Co. And this kind of high level math from 3 art majors! Our resources allow us to adeptly handle projects and campaigns, whatever the size. In other words: Boutique intimacy. Big firm muscle. Who we do it with: We’re easy. We do it with small shops, big shops, stand alones and big corps. What do all of our clients have in common? Good ideas —and a belief in the power of good design. Why we do it: We can’t help ourselves. Who we do it with (in some detail): Aperture Foundation, Bernstein & Andriulli, Black Dog & Leventhal Publishers, Book of the Month Club, Byron Preiss Visual Publications, Central Illustration Agency, Columbia University, David Grubin Productions, Duncan Baird Publishers, Farrar, Strauss & Giroux, Free Press, Harper Collins, Harper Design International, Hearst Books, Japanese Chamber of Commerce, Linda Kaye’s Birthdaybakers, Partymakers, Moxie Firecracker Films, National Dance Institute, New York Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, Nonesuch Records, Nu Dimension, Om Yoga Center, Padma Media, Parenting Magazine, Penguin Group USA, Public Affairs, Random House, Ruth C.
