“Charm, charm, and more charm certainly energizes The Charm of Charms. The book is both scholarly and witty. A perfect cocktail.  The jewelry of memento and of practicality---didn't London ladies wear charm bracelets during WWII so they could be heard in the blackouts?”

William Norwich

“When I look at my wrist, I see my charms and they remind me of my mother, which is the luckiest thing of all. So my charm bracelet is truly a lucky charm.”

Cornelia Guest

“Charm bracelets are a cross between a power amulet and a security blanket.”

Mish Tworkowski

USA Abrams Books is proud to announce The Charm of Charms (Abrams; June, 2005, $32.50) a coffee table stunner where historic and contemporary personalities come together to unveil their favorite charms. Every charm tells a story. In The Charm of Charms photographer Jade Albert and author Ki Hackney explore the world of charms—a world with an extensive history as well as a fascinating present. Featured in the book are contemporary personalities such as Cornelia Guest, Miuccia Prada and Betsey Johnson , along with their favorite charms. We’ve seen charms dangling from the wrists of everyone from Madonna to the man or woman in the next office. It’s a fact: charms are the hottest accessory around. But charms are more than just jewelry to adorn the wrist; whether worn on a chain, to decorate a handbag, or even on a dog collar, charms tell the story of the person wearing them. Take, for example, the Cartier cross bracelet presented by Edward, Prince of Wales , to his beloved, Wallis Simpson, in 1934, with each charm representing a cross the couple bore during their fateful relationship. Or the bracelet, loaded with charms representing hobbies and favorite possessions, worn by Debbie Loeffler that once belonged to her sister Karen, who passed away on September 11, 2001. These bracelets and the many others featured in The Charm of Charms , along with the testimony of their owners, provide a link to the past, to memories that might otherwise be forgotten. The Charm of Charms features 162 full-color photographs of charms from the early part of the twentieth century up to today created by a wide range of designers and companies, from Tiffany’s, Cartier , and Louis Vuitton to C.H.A.R.M, Juicy Couture , and Jacob the Jeweler and worn by women and men, old and young, human and canine (photographer Jade Albert’s dog Albert wears an enchanting array of charms on his collar). The Charm of Charms shows that charms are, and have always been, here to stay. Press please contact Anna De Souza via email anna@workhousepr.com.
